In Business Presenting and Public Speaking Skills I’ll walk through step-by-step how to not just make a PowerPoint, but really tell a story. How to use best practices to clean up your data and slides so that the audience can easily understand it.

I’ll then show you how to stand in front of a room, how to look at your audience without feeling uncomfortable, how to pace your speech, and how to avoid saying things like “um, ah, like, and.”

By the end of this course you’ll be able to design a professional looking presentation and have the skills you need to confidently stand in front of a room of any size and deliver your presentation.

Subjects Covered:

Part I

  1. Getting Started: How to use the Slide Master tool in PowerPoint and design a clean template to work with
  2. Telling A Story: Don’t just show people facts and numbers, tell them a story with your titles, notes, and designs.
  3. Keep It Short: I introduce the 5x7 rule and show you how to reduce text without losing important information.
  4. Images/Animations/Transitions: Your presentation should be more than just text, but there is an art to how and when to use animations and images.
  5. Charts & Graphs: Charts are a great way to visually display your data, but they may require a little formatting to get the most out of them.
  6. Closing It Out: How do you end your presentation with a good recap and clear next steps.
  7. Planning Your Presentation: Before you get started you need to understand what the expectations are and who your audience will be.

Part II

  1. What To Wear: What you wear is important for setting the right expectation among your audience, but it’s also important to be comfortable
  2. Where To Look: The audience should feel that you are speaking to them and acknowledging their presence, but making direct eye-contact may be uncomfortable
  3. Where To Stand: Where you stand is more important that you might think. I go over how to figure this part out and use all of your allocated space.
  4. What To Do With Your Hands: Don’t have a microphone or notes? What should you do with your hands to look and feel natural and confident.
  5. Slow Down/Avoid “Um”: I discuss some tricks and tips you can use to slow down your pace and make sure you avoid unwanted terms like “um/like/and”
